Dwelling 100–500 meters down, the Armored Sea Robin wears bony plates that shield it from predators and crushing pressure, giving it a prehistoric look. Its most striking trick is “walking” on the seafloor: finger-like pectoral fin rays probe the sand as it hunts.
Those mobile rays and sensitive barbels let the fish locate worms, mollusks, and crustaceans buried in sediment. A flattened body keeps it low against currents and out of sight, making this plated crawler a master of stealth in the deep.
